Yesterday evening under a uniformly dull sky I was lured out into the garden by the trilling of a toad. I didn’t find him, but I did find active mosquitoes.
I also found a dusting of fine material on pretty well all the leaves I looked at. Perhaps I am going out on a limb here as there is a lot of pollen around at the moment, but looking at this stuff under a powerful hand lens I noticed that while pollen is highly structured, and was present, a lot of what I was looking at was amorphous "fluff". The meteorological information is that much smoke and ash is passing over us right now and particulates will naturally settle out - hence I suggest that there is a reasonable probability that there was wood ash along for the ride - a ride of several hundred or thousands of km. in this instance. All gone this morning - pouring rain.
Whilst Out Walking some eighteen years ago at a conference in Puerto Rico alongside a beautiful Caribbean beach (see where a career in the life sciences can lead you) I happened upon these two lovely creatures. The Iguana was enormous.
Walking is rather more local these days …
Oh my! That Green Iguana is so regal!!! Love it!
