I was reading your noticing fire flies starting to glow. You know that they are looking for glow worms - the females. The males and females are trying to find mates that glow with the same frequency and intensity. Pairing up. I somehow had learned this as a child so I could "collect" some for my mason jar by my bed - just for one night and then let them go. So, the trick to finding the flies is to first look for the glow worms on the ground. They are well within sighting range of the flies they are looking at. That might help you capture a shot or two of them.
