Fleur-de-lys

There are a lot of flowering Iris plants at the moment, but this is the important one. This is the Marsh Iris, the fleur-de-lys that was once the symbol of French royalty and which now appears on the Quebec flag - where it is the symbol of the province.
The heraldic iris is more closely associated with the rather invasive yellow form as the Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus). This photo is of the North American wild native Blue Flag Iris species (Iris versicolor) growing in Québec. Flag Iris because it appears on flags.
