"Safe Haven for Goslings: New Nursery Shelters Young Canada Geese"
6 June
Just across from the lake/river at the end of the road, is a pre-school children's nursery (Garderie) from which crocodiles of small people periodically emerge to take exercise. Just across the road yesterday was a very similar nursery organised for the local Canada Geese right beside the water. I counted 16 adults standing guard over 50 or so juveniles. A large group of Canada geese gathered like this is apparently known as a “gang brood”, wherein a number of adult geese divide up the social responsibilities, thus allowing some individuals to go off to forage while others stay behind to watch the young.
