Another non-native insect that is making a living on this continent. The Common Tiger Fly (Coenosia tigrina). Adults are aerially manouverable, efficient predators that hunt flying insects, while larvae feed on earthworms.
The eggs are found in moist soils rich in organic matter or decaying vegetation where they have sufficient nutrients to hatch. Pupae seek out slightly drier areas within the same general location to undergo metamorphosis, sometimes near the soil surface.
