Bee Balm and Bee
8 August
We have a lot of Monarda/Bee Balm in the garden, both red (Monarda didyma) and lilac (M. fistulosa) - aka wild bergamot - species. It attracts many insects as well as Hummingbirds - the red in particular. Meandering along the garden paths in the evening light I was attracted by a Bumble Bee working the top of this particular flower … it flew away as I approached but this second bee was hanging out, clinging to the stem below the flower. It later flew away too, so was just having a rest I imagine.

Scarlet flowers are M. didyma and mauve flowers are likely M. fistulosa; both native to North America.
