The Canada Day fireflies were very active around 9pm. I have tried for years to get photographs but have signally failed … “why not try video?” I thought. Well, because I didn’t expect anything to come of it but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
It worked - here is a short burst of Canada Day Fireflies as seen from our garden deck. If you have the sound on, what you hear is the waterfall at the other side of the garden:
Trust the technology, don’t make assumptions. Now I know it’s possible, I will try again when they next perform. (Leica Q2 - ISO 3200 - hand held)
Going off on a short byway … One of the birds we see most winters, albeit with a bit of searching, is the Snow Bunting which comes down from the arctic to enjoy a winter where it is “warm” for them. Very mobile birds usually in large flocks. Of course, we do not see them in their breeding plumage but a few years on this date, 2 July, we were in Iceland and saw this fine specimen … shared here for interest.
Thank you for the firefly video! I have never seen fireflies and this may be as close to seeing them as I will ever get. It is like watching the stars come out .... in your garden. Delightful!! Thanks again.
Mine are also active here.
