The “right for children to access nature at school”
22 July
Here is a fine idea … why are there not more initiatives like this? Everywhere. The “right for children to access nature at school” is important. Not just token access, but something structured and meaningful.
Plus a “Bonking Beetle” (so-called, because that’s all they seem to do, all day long) surveying the world from a grass stem. Adults feed on aphids, and eat pollen and nectar. Larvae prey on ground-dwelling invertebrates, such as slugs and snails, and live at the base of long grasses. The adults, which are active between June and August, spend much of their short lives mating and can often be seen in pairs. Non-native, but well naturalized.

Children and Nature: drawn to Nature, as perhaps most children are, in school I was always looking out the windows for a glimpse….although that was many decades ago and it was a simpler time when I could wander all around my semi-rural neighborhood exploring freely the rest of the time. Nature remains my greatest teacher.
I totally agree, children should all be given good access to nature from an early age.
I've just been out surveying butterflies, and there were bonking beetles everywhere I looked!
