Where All the Birds Are
22 August
I managed to get some extra elevation to take this picture of half of “the Mead” this week. There are bees everywhere, butterflies - albeit not as a many there should be - and a good variety of birds. Almost 30 species in one early hour one day recently. The yellow flowers are mostly golden rod with very tall (taller than me) Rudbeckia laciniata and there are many other native species giving support. Once the weather starts to cool and we have had enough rain to soften the ground, I plan to install a “dead hedge” under the trees to provide a further home for small creatures, mosses, lichens and fungi.

So lovely to see what you have done. Bless you for doing this!
Hard to believe this is a suburban yard! Is that a functional greenhouse at the back, and is the waterfall to the left of that? Do you still feed the birds through the summer?
