I am amazed to read how many whales have beached themselves in and around Britain. Over the years one may read of the occasional beaching, but whole pods and hundreds of individual whales dying cause one to wonder just how many exist.. Presumably every country with an ocean border could have a similar death rate, but not every one would be recorded.
