So many birds on the bare tree look like flowers in bloom. Are they all starlings?

Indeed they were ... every one

Here in the UK, we love our dandelions and here they are great for insects! But, I can guess how bad they must be over there as an invasive non-native.

And I'm constantly appalled by the wastage of food and other stuff.

Coming originally from England I am too well aware of the fact that a number of conservation initiatives (no mow may is another one) originating in Europe are taken up enthusiastically in North America without modifications for different species and different weather conditions.

All kinds of good stuff to be doing and thinking about this winter! I am among those who thought I was 'feeding my bees' by letting the dandelions grow in the yard. UGH! The article is from 2021. Why have I not read more about how detrimental dandelions are to our native honey bees? And now that I have dandelions freely growing in my yarn by the hundreds, how do I get rid of them without chemicals? I do see that they do not bloom in shade. Perhaps I can increase shaded portions of the lawn for at least a few years. But the bees seem to like to be in the sun. sigh Still, I am glad to know about this conundrum.

Totally agree about supermarket waste. If they paid farmers and growers realistic prices, they might think harder about throwing it away
