We live in an area where there has been a concerted protection effort over the last many years. It is a rare week I don't see one flying above the fields behind our house from my study window, and the red kite is the emblem on my daughter's school uniform.
I grew up in Leeds (long ago) and remember that some of the first releases of the recovery project were "just down the road" in the grounds of Harewood House.
Lovely photo of the Red Kite, such a magnificent bird and it's wonderful that they're increasing in number. I've been lucky enough to have several sightings in the south west of Scotland.
Beautiful image and that sounds like an excellent program in the UK.
Much of the ice is melting and breaking up on parts of the Ottawa River here between Ottawa and Gatineau QC. Hopefully you have ice break-up in the Montreal area in the next few weeks.
I am pleased to tell you, Richard, that this beautiful bird is often seen in the larger trees on Brampton Golf Course.
Warm regards,
Robert

Lovely photo. I see these all around Yorkshire now, even occasionally from my house - such a privilege :-)

Best kite ever!
