Stalks and bees. I customarily leave stalks about one to two feet high to mark the location of some of my perennials when they die back in the late autumn. My dahlias and verbena bonarensis leave nice stalks. But I never dreamt that bees could use them! Perhaps that's the reason we've had bumper crops of the little charming pollinators of late.
Great post, beautiful birds. I always leave my garden stalks and stubble up in the fall and winter for the birds, insects and wildlife. It's so important.

I “get things done” by being retired and having a wife who likes doing these jobs too.
