What you’ve done with your yard is so inspiring to me! Do you have any recommended sources for native / bird or pollinator friendly plants in the Montreal area?
Thank you for your kind words. I’m afraid there are no specialist, nurseries and garden centres for native plants in the Montreal area the time aware of. You will just have to check out the various regular nurseries because sometimes they have interesting species. You can raise them from seed as well, and that is easier sometimes for the more unusual species. There are a couple of specialists in the Ottawa and nearby region, but for the most part, they will not ship into Quebec because they are small operations. Keep your eyes open. Use the Internet drop in nurseries when you’re passing and just see what’s around and gradually you’ll put a good garden supply together. After awhile, interesting species just appear in your garden, probably carried in on the wind or on the feet of birds. Good luck it’s a lot of fun gardening like this.
I don’t have my own yard yet, just a patio area with containers that I want to add some pollinator friendly plants to. But I want to start learning now about native plant gardening in expectation of having my own yard within the next year or two.
I have been dropping in on garden centres in my area but mostly finding non-natives. It’s difficult to even find information on what are the native plants in my area. Lots of taking photos of things and googling.
I did find this company which is Montreal based https://akene.ca/en and doing very interesting things.
