BONUS POST - too excited to wait until Sunday
A couple of weeks ago I posted here some reasons why everyone needs a pond and waterfall in their gardens as a bird-magnet and I gave some suggested basic instructions for essential features. Subsequently, a gratifying number of people approached me to ask questions. “Build it and they will come” was my basic message - with fingers crossed behind my back as thus far in May things have been OK-ish at best.
Then 3:15 this afternoon arrived … and, well, I hope that you like photographs, because it was sheer mayhem in the header pool at the top of the waterfall for 15-20 minutes.
We saw, and photographed …
Chestnut sided Warblers
Bay-breasted Warblers
Blackburnian Warbler(s)
Tennessee Warblers
Indigo Buntings
Cape May Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
All those appear in the photos below. In addition we recorded Red-eyed Vireo, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, American Robin, American Goldfinch and a female Cowbird.
Here we go:
Earlier in the day we had a female Cape-May Warbler in the Sour Cherry Tree
Now - go and dig that pond over the weekend.
When next Sunday’s regular edition appears, matters will have calmed down a bit 😉
Wow. Excellent photos. That pond is beautiful and ultra attractive to birds.
Fantastic! That must have been really exciting.
